24th IIUM CONVOCATION FIESTA 2008

IIUM Convocation Fiesta (CONVEST) is one of the biggest annual events organized by Students’ Representatives Council of IIUM. The year of 2008 is the 24th year of Convest being organized in IIUM.

This year, CONVEST 08 with the theme of ‘25th Years of Excellence: The Glory We Share ‘comprises of various type of sub-programs of academic-based, exhibitions, sports tournament and many more. It is for the undergraduates to broaden their minds and comprehension in Islamic aspects of their life and teamwork as well as to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of IIUM: Educating the Ummah, Serving the Nation.

For this year, the event will start on 21st August until 27th August 2008 organised by Student’s Representative Council (SRC) 07/08, International Islamic University Malaysia.

Some great events for CONVEST 08:

i) Opening Ceremony
Date: 21/8/08
Time: 8.00-11.00pm
Venue: KAED Auditorium

The Opening Ceremony indicates the beginning of CONVEST 08. It will consist of decorated cars competition between kulliyyahs and SRC with motorcycle convoy. The marking will be done from CONVEST 08 Management Board and also the audience. There will be also special performance by InTeam.

ii) Career Talk with UEM World
Date: 22/08/08
Time: 3.00pm to 5.00pm
Venue: Mini Audi

This career talk is organized by Alumni and Career Division and United Engineers Malaysia (UEM) World. Senior General Manager of UEM World will give talk to IIUM community especially engineering students.

iii) Pre-Marriage Course
Date: 23-24/08/08
Time: 8.00am to 5.00pm
Venue: Moot Court, AIKOL

This is the opportunity for all students and staff to get their certificate for life and information about the marriage and parental life. This event is collaboration with Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS). An opportunity not to be missed, the fees are just RM35 for IIUM students and RM40 for staff. Door gifts and magazines are given free for participants, sponsored by Telaga Biru.

iv)Students Leaders’ Convention 2008
Date: 23/08/08
Time: 8.00am to 6.00pm
Venue: Senate Hall, IIUM

The theme for this convention is “Ke Arah Memartabatkan Modal Insan melalui Sistem Pendidikan Negara” which will be participated by representatives from Kulliyyahs Based Society (KBS) and participants from other universities such as UTP, UPNM, UPM, UKM, UM and private universities. RM20 per person for participant fees.

v) Anti-Corruption Secretariat Short Video Competition & Theatrical Performance 2008
Date: 25/08/08
Time: 8.00pm

This competition will be organized by Anti-Corruption Secretariats. It is to promote a healthy lifestyle that is free from corruption and bribery.

vi)Discover the Beauty of the Quran
Date: 21 - 27/08/08
Time: 8.00am to 5.30pm
Venue: SHAS Mosque foyer, Main Prayer Hall, Main Audi Engine.

This exhibition and seminar is organized by Maa’ruf Club IIUM. ‘Kaedah Jibril’ Seminar will be held at Main Audi Engine on 23rd August from 8am till 5.30pm.

vii) Forum Perdana Hal Ehwal Islam
Date: 26/8/08
Time: 8.00pm – 11.30pm
Venue: Main Hall, CAC

An interesting forum conducted during CONVEST 08 that will cover the topics “Towards the beauty of Islam”. This would be a great chance for the students and the public to involve in this intellectual discussion. RTM, Bank Rakyat and JAKIM will be the main sponsor for this event. The panelists includes Ust. Wan Sohor, Ust Hanafi, Nabil (Far East), Ustzh Nik Salida, and Ust Ridhuan Tee Abdullah as the moderator.

viii)Islamic Mega Performance
Date: 27/8/08
Time: 8.15-11.30pm
Venue: Main Hall, CAC

With the theme of “Menjana Ummah Gemilang”, this nasyeed concert is most awaited by most of IIUM community since there’s been a long time that a big nasyeed concert was held in CAC. This event also collaborate SRC with MRC Nusaibah and As-Siddiq. Special organizer by MUNSYID and RABBANI Productions. The ticket sold for this event is only RM6 but you can see Raihan, Rabbani, In-Team, Hijjaz, Nowseeheart, Far East and many more.

viii) Mock Trial 08
Date: 27-28/8/08
Time: 8.00am- 11.00pm
Venue: Main Audi IIUM

Mock Trial is a legal theatre participated by the Law students which focusing on the legal aspects to expose the legal procedures in our Malaysia Judiciary System to the students and publics. The theme this year is “Military Court”.

vii) IIUM Futsal tournament

Venue: Saidina Hamzah Male Sport Complex IIUM

This event is to promote a healthy lifestyle besides to enlighten the spirit of brotherhood and sportsmanship among the IIUM Community and the public. The tournament will be made open not only to students, but also to staffs and outsiders so that the challenge would be more challenging.

Students’ Representatives Council 07/08 would like to welcome all IIUM community from Gombak Campus, Nilai Campus and Petaling Jaya Campus to Gombak Campus during CONVEST 08. All the events are also open to the outside community. Please come and let’s join us!
